With a new website and tools in place we are ready to start focusing on the development of a new game. Before I get into those details I would like to introduce myself. I'm Dan Supinski, the project manager and lead designer around here. My background consists of video games, Gamasutra articles, design books, Gamedev.net articles, and a Bachelors of Science in psychology. I grew up as a nerd and plan to die that way.
New Era Games was started almost four years ago now and, yes, we've neglected to document our progress over the years. I now understand a lot more about time management, game design, and developing so I've decided to begin the tracking of our accomplishments, failures, and other, more trivial, events. If you're reading this I know that you either love us (because we are awesome), or are simply bored out of your mind! It's okay though. Someday people will explore our blog wondering how we made such awesome video games! (Or at least that is one of our many goals)
Sorry, I tend to ramble a lot. Lets try to avoid more wasted space and get down to business. Since the new year (2008) started Rob Lane (lead programmer/founder) and myself(professional bum) have decided that a new direction was in order for us and our faithful team. After a lot of debate and deliberation we decided to utilize our resources to create a 2D RTS game. There were a few reasons for this. First, we had no modeling team to continue working efficiently on White Rock(I'll explain what this was another day). Secondly, the team was lacking moral over the continual let down from the recruited 3D modelers. The most important reason was that Rob and I needed a break from White Rock, we had both been slaving away on that one concept for over 3 years and felt we needed to step away from the project before we ruined it.
This huge shift in direction caused me quite a bit of anxiety. I had recruited students from all walks of life to work on an epic FPS video game and I wasn't sure how this team of loyal and hard working individuals would take the news. To my surprise it was widely accepted as a great idea, with only a few exceptions. In short order we reorganized, found a few interns (of which only one worked out), and started trucking along in this new direction.
Not only have we managed to get a talented modeler to help us with animation, we have completed at least 20% of the art for this game already. With the programming not far behind this project is promising to be much more successful than White Rock(which is merely on hold). The artists, writers, designers, and programmers all feel this was one of the best decisions we've made.
Now that your all up to date with the general history of our new project I'll leave your eyes to rest. Next time I'll discuss what this project is, where we envision it, and what has progressed since this post.
Cheers,
Dan Supinski AKA PertinaxVir

Well, since...
Well since this is the first blog post, and seeing as I the webmaster at NEG it would be odd if I didn't post a comment to my own post to get the 'recent comments' block to show up. I hope you all enjoyed my first post and look forward to making many more in the future.
